About Deshelved

Deshelved is a board game night planning app. It allows users to create game night events, invite friends, vote on games to play, log play sessions, and track their board game collection. Accounts are for users aged 13 and over, matching the minimum age in our terms of service. The app is built for organising social activities with people you already know, and most of its users are adults.

Our commitment

Deshelved has zero tolerance for child sexual abuse material (CSAM) and any content or behaviour that sexually exploits or endangers minors. We are committed to maintaining a safe environment for all users and to complying with all applicable child safety laws.

How Deshelved reduces risk

Uploads are limited to still images (JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, max 5 MB) attached to a user's own collection entries, and rulebook PDFs. There is no video or audio upload, and nothing can be uploaded to an event — collection images simply appear alongside the games on an event. Image uploads are screened by automated moderation and rejected when flagged for sexual content or child sexual abuse material; the screen is best-effort and a failure of the moderation service does not block the upload.
There is no user-to-user messaging, no open public forum, and no comment section. The only messaging in the product is a private support conversation between a user and the operator, so there is no mechanism for strangers to contact one another.
A user can publish their collection at /c/<code>, where the code is an opaque handle we generate — never their name, email or BoardGameGeek username. The page shows their display name, their BoardGameGeek username if they have linked one, and the games and images on that collection, and is only reachable by someone who has the link. Everything else is private: there is no user search, no public feed, and no browsing from one user to another. Events are invitation-based — guests join only through a private link the host shares directly.
There is no real-time location sharing, live chat, or live streaming. Venue names attached to a logged game are shared only with the people recorded as playing that game.
No data is sold to third parties or used for advertising purposes.
Any content can be removed and any account suspended by the operator on report, and uploads are removed with the account.

Reporting a concern

If you encounter content or behaviour on Deshelved that you believe constitutes child sexual abuse or exploitation, please report it immediately using one of the following:

All reports are reviewed promptly. Where evidence of child sexual abuse material is identified, we will report it to the relevant national authority (including the Internet Watch Foundation and the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children) and cooperate fully with law enforcement.

Compliance

Deshelved complies with all applicable child safety and online safety legislation, including obligations to report CSAM to regional and national authorities. Accounts found to be involved in any form of child exploitation will be permanently suspended and reported to the appropriate authorities.
